Drug addiction is a very dangerous the extreme of self harm that anyone can commit and there is no doubt about it. addiction treatmentThe idea of leading a simple and straightforward life becomes impossible. All of these happen only because the body and brain relies on the abused drug. Now when we speak of drug withdrawal, we know of it as detoxification process. This simply means the process of leaving or staying off the said drug. As mentioned before, the reliance of the body on the said drug is dangerous and when drugs are cleared out of the system, signs of mental and physical distress begin to show up. These basically are the symptoms of drug withdrawal. Withdrawal happens because the brain works like a pushed down spring while addicted. Drugs give that mental pleasure and pushes down the brain like a spring as depressants. When the drugs are cleared out, that spring is taken off and it jumps back up which is that sudden surge of adrenaline rush and causes the bodily functions to fumble and withdrawal symptoms show up.

Different drugs have different effects. One might just think that withdrawals are simple and easy to handle. Now that TV and internet is fairly popular and drugs and withdrawal or detox is pretty much a hot topic in pop culture, we might have that notion that it is nothing to be afraid of. This information is severely underestimated and completely wrong. Detox can have heavy and long term ill effects on the victim’s body, both mentally and physically. Going through withdrawal or detox completely alone is very risky and there is a major risk of error and bad experience throughout the process. First of all, the problem with detoxing or withdrawal is that it does not work like a bowel cleanse or a simple medical check up. It is potentially risky and the proper guidance of a medical professional and regular check ups and tests are needed. Thus there are rehab centers for drug addicts who are looking to come clean. When addicts foolishly attempts to lay off alone it is destined to bring failure than success. Withdrawal symptoms show up within 12 hours and it can have following effects:

  • Anxiety
  • Body Pain
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Insomnia
  • Fatigue
  • Excessive sweating
  • Vomiting etc.

What is scary about this is that there might even be underlying diseases or internal problems going on that the victim might not know about. It is absolutely necessary to test out and know about them. Withdrawal without supervision can be extremely risky and even fatal at times if necessary steps are not taken.
